TITLE :CorelDRAW May Not be Able to Save Files in Windows NT
PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
CorelDRAW versions 3.0 and 4.0 do not run satisfactorily under Windows
NT. The PHOTO-PAINT and SHOW features are virtually useless and there
are major problems with the MOSAIC feature.
One specific problem is that you cannot save files in CorelDRAW
because the software cannot write a "thumbnail" (what you see in the
upper-right portion of the File Open dialog box) to the header of a
.CDR file.
CAUSE
=====
All of these problems result from the software packages using 16-bit
device drivers, which are not supported by Windows NT. The drivers are
used for importing from and exporting to various graphic formats, so
most import/export operations fail.
WORKAROUND
==========
There are no workarounds for most problems resulting from the presence
of 16-bit drivers.
To save files in CorelDRAW, do the following:
1. From the File SaveAs or File Save dialog box, locate the Header list
box with an 8 kilobyte (K) header default.
2. In the list box, select 0, 1, or 2.
These values ensure that any thumbnails of newly-created files will
be black and white, and this means that CorelDRAW will not try to kick
in its 16-bit device driver.
You do NOT need to save files in 2.0 file format, as is sometimes
advised.
